Find Out If A Particular Property
Is Under Foreclosure

If you have a concern that a specific property is under foreclosure, a quick way to find out is to perform a search on the active case database maintained by the Connecticut Judicial Branch.

The database can be found HERE.
Once there, from the menu bar: (1) Select "Case Look-Up"; (2) Select "Civil/Family"; (3) Select "Inquiries"; (4) Select "Party Name", if you know the owner's name, or select one of the other options.
If you know the judicial district in which the property is located, enter that as well to limit the number of search hits.
The search results will display a list of all cases involving the named party. If there is a lender listed as a plaintiff, click on that case. In the header that is displayed, you will see "Case Type", which will indicate if the matter is in fact a foreclosure. You will also be able to determine the law firms representing the parties, and a summary of the actions which the Court has taken on the case.

Be aware that there may be a lag time of several weeks between the time a foreclosure is begun and its entry into the database. If this concerns you, you can do a limited title run-down at the Town Clerk's Office to see if there has been a "Lis Pendens" recorded against the property. That recording is the first step in a foreclosure process.
